Whale watching is a breathtaking experience that will stay with you for a lifetime, and there’s nowhere better to observe these beautiful creatures up close than the scenic waters of the Gold Coast.

Every year thousands of magnificent humpback whales migrate from the Antarctic to the warmer waters of western and eastern Australia between June and the end of October. It is a journey that takes them straight past the Gold Coast, making this stretch of Queensland one of the best whale watching locations in the whole of Australia. During the whale-watching season these beautiful giants can be seen frolicking in the open waters of the Pacific, within just a few kilometers of the beach.

There are several whale watching tours which run from Marina Mirage close by our Main Beach family accommodation, giving you the perfect opportunity to witness these majestic creatures up close and feel the boat rock as they leap, twist and turn in and out of the water just metres in front of you!  The waters around the Gold Coast are teeming with marine life. As you glide across the ocean in your tour vessel you can expect to see cavorting dolphins, tropical fish in every colour of the rainbow, and possibly sharks and sea turtles. Lucky passengers have even spotted the beautiful and extremely rare white Migaloo whale off the Gold Coast in the past.

Most tours run for around three hours and there are morning and afternoon departures available.
