Celtic Illusion

After a sold-out 2017 season, the much-awaited family event of 2018 is back. Celtic Illusion is the largest dance, and magical illusion show that has been taking audiences by storm.

The show is for people young and old. It smartly fuses awesome contemporary Irish Dance with amazing magic and Grand Illusions and has come back to Australian stages for a one-night-only show.

With fantastic new choreography, incredible magic, adrenaline-inducing music and sensory experience, unlike anything you've ever seen. Audiences will hold their breaths and will want more.

Presenting an excellent cast of champion and internationally-acclaimed dancers, including dancers from both Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, Celtic Illusion features some of the fastest taps in the world. As the dancers’ powerful rhythm take over the stage in perfect unison, be amazed at Celtic Illusion.

The show is headlined by Australia’s very own Anthony Street, one of the first to perform leading roles in Michael Flatley’s widely-celebrated Lord of the Dance, including the very part that Michael Flatley initially danced himself.

Since it began in 2011, the show has been playing to sold-out crowds across Australia and New Zealand. Audiences have been floored by the blend of exciting dance and magical illusion.

Now it is your chance to see the magic that is Celtic Illusion.

Catch Celtic Illusion on April 22 at Home of the Arts.

My Urrwai

2019 Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival event.

Ghenoa Gela — little sister, daughter, granddaughter, fighter, charmer, TV star, gold medallist, air guitarist, comic, teacher, Torres Strait mainlander and walking political statement — has created a show.

Audiences are invited into the complex social, colonial, political, and cultural expectations that Ghenoa experiences every day.

My Urrwai, led by director Rachael Maza and dramaturg Kate Champion and supported by an excellent team, is a telling reflection that celebrates the cultural and familial inheritance. It is a hard look at racial dynamics in Australia.

Urrwai is a blend of words which means “my spirit, my style, my essence” in the Kala Lagaw Ya language. Laughter and insight come together in this unique and personal story expressed through movement and words. Honoured by the renowned Keir Choreographic Award, Ghenoa’s vibrant true to life journey is funny, emotionally resonant and, ultimately, profound.

Catch the show from April 26 - 27 at Home of the Arts.

National Theatre Live: The Tragedy of King Richard The Second

Simon Russell Beale steps into the role of William Shakespeare’s titular character, Richard II. The play is shot directly from the stage of the Almeida Theatre to be shown in cinemas here.

This daring new production about power dynamics will be helmed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, whose notable works such as Little Revolution at the Almeida and Absolute Hell at the National Theatre make him the perfect choice.

Richard II is frivolous and narcissistic. His ineffective leadership throws his kingdom into confusion and his court into a row. Seeing no other way but to capture the throne, the resolute Bolingbroke disputes the dominion and the king’s religious right to rule.

Simon Russell Beale comes back to National Theatre Live screens following Timon of Athens and King Lear.

Catch the show on April 20 at HOTA.

Escape and Evasion

Catch the World Premiere of Escape and Evasion.

Seth is the only survivor of a secret military operation in Burma. After he comes home and tries to adjust to his daily existence, he is faced by a Journalist determined to find out the truth about what precisely those soldiers were doing in that tropical jungle.

Writer-director Storm Ashwood’s riveting invocation of the turmoil of war is anchored by a stirring and strong performance from Josh McConville. Proudly filmed on the Gold Coast, this homegrown production is an impressive war movie and a compelling look into the troubling effects of PTSD.

The film is from Australia and is part of the Gold Coast Film Festival. Don’t miss the film on April 14 at HOTA.

Christian Hull - Complete Drivel Live Podcast

Writer-Comedian, podcaster and hard-working content creator Christian Hull are taking his podcast, Complete Drivel, on the road for his first solo tour.

Christian has spent many years working for Australia’s most extensive radio network SCA as National Digital Video Producer. He has made hours of entertaining content for other shows. In his free time, Christian goes home to Melbourne and shoots candid videos in his apartment. His funny characters and parenting parodies have won him thousands of online followers and millions of views.

In 2016, Christian experimented and turned his short clips into longer-form episodes. The Complete Drivel podcast was created. Described by Christian as an utter waste of time, the blunt, honest and quirky podcast is a staple in the iTunes Top 50. Christian’s frank discussion of everything from his sexual experiences to the usual chit-chat has made his podcast a hit.

Now the ‘sh***est podcast on iTunes’ is going on the road. Complete Drivel Live will be a series of anecdotes from Christian’s childhood. Christian talks about being raised with triplet brothers and delves into his sexual experiences. He is single and vents about everything. Special guest ‘Trish’ will be joining Christian as part of the show.

The show will be even more significant than the podcast. Tickets will run out. Don’t miss this fantastic comedy creator when he brings his stories and talents for his first show.

This will be the funniest podcast so don't miss it. Raw and real, the podcast promises lots of laughs.
