Burleigh Heads National Park, just 30 minutes drive from Deville Main Beach family accommodation, is one of the Gold Coast’s most spectacular natural attractions, offering 27 hectares of cool rainforest and wild headland ideal for picnics and hiking.
Two easy to moderate walking tracks wind through the park, leading you through a lush living museum of plants. The 1.2 km Oceanview Walk stretches along the foreshore, while the slightly longer Rainforest Circuit winds through patches of fragrant eucalypt forest and towering pandanus groves up to Tumgun lookout, where you can take in sweeping views over the coast and out to the hinterland. If you are visiting between June and November, you might even be lucky enough to spot some humpback whales breaching in the surf below – binoculars are a must!
The park is a haven for native wildlife and whatever time of year you visit; you’re likely to see ospreys, sea eagles and brahminy kites searching for fish by the creek, all kinds of fruit eating birds in the trees and sometimes even a bearded dragon or carpet python basking in the sun. Pack a picnic and make a day of it!
