The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, or “Aussies” as they are affectionately known, were first staged in the choppy waters around Bondi in 1915.
Today, more than 100 years on, they have emerged as the country’s biggest and best celebration of surf lifesaving. And this year, the renowned event will be staged on North Kirra Beach, just a short drive from De Ville Main Beach family accommodation.
Thousands of competitors from all over Australia are expected to flock to the Gold Coast to battle it out for those all-important gold medals and the chance to have their names listed alongside some of the legends of Australian sporting history in the annals of Surf Life Saving.
Witness this historic event and cheer from the sands this autumn!
The Australian Life Saving Championships 2013 will take place from 15-21 April 2013.
